New bike lanes downtown, city soliciting suggestions for more

Central Avenue and South Caroline Street both had bike facilities completed recently. Both offer a potential substitute a for the somewhat flawed bike lane on Nearby President Street.

They are often within the door zone, but the area doesn’t have a ton of commercial or residential activity, and both streets will likely be safer with the new lanes. Hopefully the new lane on Central Avenue can help calm traffic there.

The city’s official Bike / Pedestrian planning blog also has a post up where readers are being asked to suggest new places for bike facilities.

Some suggestions so far -

Bike lanes on Maryland Avenue, Mt. Royal Avenue (coming within the next couple of years), Greenmount, Extending St. Paul, Calvert, and getting more work done on Guilford Avenue sooner.

I appreciate the effort, but these definitely go over some rough, cobble stone-like surface, which can be pretty frustrating.
