Big Ideas: Jones Falls Bike Boulevard

Jones Falls Bike Boulevard

Jeff La Noue of Coemback City has an idea.  It’s time to build on the success of the Guilford Bike Boulevard with another infrastructure win for cyclists–the creation of a Jones Falls Bike Boulevard.  The proposed route is above, and the author argues it “should be a top candidate for Baltimore’s next bicycle boulevard.”

La Noue’s argument–and it’s a compelling one–is twofold:

  1. The route is extremely popular among joggers and cyclists already, and more importantly
  2. Its design is kind of dangerous.  Due to the curvy nature of the route, it isn’t hard to imagine a motorist riding around a cyclist while going around a curve, into an on-coming lane, and slamming head-on into another vehicle.

Make sure you check out the full proposal at Comeback City.

i run and ride this route all the time and couldn’t agree more. i see cars flying around those curves. it’s only a matter of time until something bad happens
